Dog House #1
A few of you may think this is absurd to do for a bunch of discarded dogs.  But if you did not have a dog you love at your feet right now, you would not be on this page.  If something happened to you, would you want anything less for your precious friend?  We say we do not want to outlive our children but we do want to outlive our furry companions. They have no voice in what happens to them.  I want to set an example.  Foster homes are hard to find so I want to give them the next best thing until their forever home comes along.  I can only do this with your help.

12/28/10: The first dog house is complete aside from finishing the drywall and something on the floor (tile or vinyl) which I will do myself.   It is 10' wide and 12' deep.  Seven feet high in the front and a cozy 4' high in the back where their beds will be.  It is fully insulated, has a big window, steps and a doggie door in the entrance door.  The roof is shingle because (1) it is cheaper then metal and (2) most importantly, some dogs are afraid of the sound of rain on a metal roof.

I priced storage shed 'kits' and those 'bully barns'.  Adding in labor, a floor, framing to hold insulation and the insulation, and inside finishing, it would have cost more then building from scratch.  I checked into some used ones.  They would have cost even more as labor to take apart and transport the materials would have been higher then the difference between new and used.

This yard still needs a carport so they can go outside in the rain to potty without getting soaked.  As of 12/30/10 we are approx. $500 from the total goal for 2 dog houses and one carport.   Support has been amazing.  Thank you all!

The second dog house will be similar but smaller because of the slope of the area it will be built in.  10' x 10' or 8' x 12' depending on the slope of the ground.  The next week is suppose to be above freezing during the day, so I hope my builder will do it, too.  I can be a pain and I know it!
